This is a review of the restaurant A-Roy Thai Restaurant, part of the #FEastCoastRoad series.
It was one of those days when both of us had a craving for Thai food and we knew that there was one behind the bus-stop along East Coast Road.
Dining Area
We were shown to the table closest to the kitchen, giving us a view of the entire dining area. I would say that the number of diners ain’t too bad for a weeknight. Apparently there is another branch of A-Roy Thai in Novena Square and it opens daily.
Food
Prawn crackers was served while we went through the extensive menu. I recalled the chili to be spicy and went well with the crackers.
Ordered three dishes plus one dessert, and the food took a while to be served. Unfortunately, it was quite an underwhelming experience.
Tom yum kung (clear tom yum soup with seafood) – nothing memorable.
Kway Teaw Rad Na (Stir Fried Noodles in Thick Gravy) – Recalled it to be really peppery. The portion was rather small too.
Eggplant with minced pork – another forgettable dish
Water chestnust with fresh coconut milk – This is probably the best dish of the night. However, the sweet dessert couldn’t salvage the rather disappointing meal.
Final Thoughts
I don’t think that we would recommend A-Roy Thai as there are much nicer Thai food elsewhere. The portions were also quite small for the prices charged.
For Thai food in the east, I would probably stick to the popular chain Nakhon Kitchen or Nangfa, its neighbour in Bedok, in the future.
