This is a review of the restaurant Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen, part of the #FEastCoastRoad series.
It was one random weeknight when we decided to walk from our home to East Coast Road. It took us approximately 20+ minutes to reach Fu Lin, which was bustling as usual.
While the decor wasn’t much, I reckoned that 80% of the tables were taken when we arrived.
Fu Lin had been featured in Business Times before and beside this original shop, they have expanded to four other locations around the island.
Food of Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen
Like most other yong tau foo stalls, we could choose the items that we fancy from the display shelves. Since we weren’t too hungry, we just ordered one bowl of thick bee hoon to go with our selected items.
What set Fu Lin apart from other places are: –
- The yong tau foo items (except for vegetables) are deep-friend instead of blanched
- The special savoury gravy used on both thick bee hoon (2 SGD per bowl) and the yong tau foo items
The staff preparing our food that day wasn’t very generous with the gravy. We noticed that one of the ingredients used to make the gravy was star anise.
You could see the minced pork bits inside the gravy.
The meal was great as usual with the empty plate and bowl being testament to that.
Final Words
It’s hard not to enjoy the deep-fried yong tau foo items and thick bee hoon drenched in delicious special gravy at Fu Lin. Cost-wise, it isn’t the cheapest around but it’s nice to enjoy it once in a while.
